Hereditary and Jurassic World are just some of the best films this month

Summer movie season has gotten off to a historic start in 2018, thanks to the record-shattering debut of Avengers: Infinity War and the subsequent premieres of Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Nonetheless, that’s merely the beginning of what promises to be an immensely crowded next few months at the multiplex—beginning in June.

Between a star-studded heist film, a long-awaited animated superhero sequel, and a return to the dino-mayhem of Jurassic Park—moviegoers should have plenty of options to keep them busy (and satisfied) for the foreseeable future:

Action Point

Johnny Knoxville brings Jackass-style stunts to a fictional story about a poorly run water park (based, in large part, on New Jersey’s Action Park) in this outrageous comedy.

American Animals

Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan are childhood friends who plot to steal a collection of rare books and prints in this heist film from director Bart Layton.

Hereditary

Toni Collette is a mom unravelling at the seems in the wake of her own mother’s death (among other tragedies) in this heavily hyped supernatural thriller.

Ocean’s 8

Playing the sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean, Sandra Bullock assembles a team —including Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, and Mindy Kaling—to steal a $150 million necklace from the Met Gala in this all-star continuation of the popular franchise. And the film’s already this year’s best heist movie.

Hotel Artemis

Jodie Foster winds up in trouble while running a Los Angeles hospital for criminals in this thriller co-starring Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Jenny Slate, Brian Tyree Henry, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Da, and Dave Bautista.

Won’t you be my Neighbor?

Primed to be one of the non-fiction hits of the year, Morgan Neville’s heartwarming documentary details the life, career, and guiding philosophy of Mister Rogers.

Incredibles 2

Fourteen years later, the superpowered Parr family gets back into action against a new villain in Pixar’s eagerly anticipated animated sequel.

Tag

A group of childhood friends—Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, and Jake Johnson—engage in a cross-country game of tag in this based-on-a-true-story comedy.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reunite to save some dinosaurs—and stop some new, genetically enhanced beasts—in this sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

For his third film of the summer (after Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2), Josh Brolin reteams with Benicio Del Toro for this sequel, which finds the deadly duo undertaking another drug-cartel mission.
