Unlike other supercar marques, when Automobili Lamborghini first launched in 1963 with plans to build the world’s best GT cars, it did
not have its own signature colour.
Instead its cars presented buyers a unique chromatic rainbow of choices—and, crucially, the freedom
to create their own custom shades.
Having spent months looking over the esteemed brand’s archives Lamborghini’s Head of Design, Mitjia Borkert reveals his favourite colours and the cars that wore them…

Reventon
The Reventon is special model for us, and a lot of that has to do with the matte grey colour that we chose for this car. It actually marked the first time that we used these matte colours in production. The treatment speaks very closely to our technical and aeronautical inspiration, as many fighter jets are decorated with this special colour.

Countach 5000S
White is a colour for car purists. I loved seeing it contrasted with a red interior on the Countach 5000S, as it really highlights our strong design DNA. It’s a statement of beauty that perfectly highlights the single centre line and the sculptural approach of our design philosophy.

Diablo
One of my personal Lamborghini highlights has to be when I first saw the music video for Jamiroquai’s song ‘Cosmic Girl’. In it they used a Diablo with a purple interior—a super iconic colour that is currently making a resurgence on the Aventador SVJ. Bold, brave, and without a doubt catches your attention.

Aventador S Roadster
One of my personal favourite colours today has to be Blu Aegir. It was first presented on the Aventador S Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Paired with the creme interior, it is a real pleasure to look at, and feels like this beautiful car is open and ready for a coastal road trip.

Urus
Yellow is a very important colour for us as it was the colour used for the first Countach LP500 prototype back in 1971. It fits well with the purism of our design, and is consistently a popular choice with our customers. A good example of this is that 17 percent of our Urus sold have been in yellow. It’s a bold, brave colour that also feels pure at the same time.
