When it comes to working in collaborations, Virgil Abloh knows a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t. Which is why we are excited to hear of the latest team up between the multi-hyphenate designer and Mercedes-Benz to create an art project entitled “Project Geländewagen” inspired by the G-Class.
The past year alone has seen the artistic director for Louis Vuitton Menswear collaborate with Japanese designer Nigo, and via his Off-White label, he worked with IKEA, and created one of the most sought-after pairs of Air Jordan sneakers in history.
Project Geländewagen sees Abloh working with Mercedes chief design officer Gorden Wagener on creating a unique piece of artwork from the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which will be unveiled on 8 September, 2020.

Speaking of the partnership and the artwork that he has created, Abloh said, “Mercedes-Benz is a brand that stands for luxury and exceptional performance. Truly a perfect chassis to interject modern artists’ ideas of what the future can be stylistically, within conceptual car design.”
“The next step in pushing Mercedes-Benz design is our collaboration with Virgil Abloh,” added Mercedes-Benz chief design officer Gorden Wagener.
“We are set to create something unseen in both of our branches.” Bettina Fetzer, vice president marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG, agreed: “Teaming up with Virgil Abloh, one of the most influential and inspiring creatives of our time, represents Mercedes-Benz’s idea of zeitgeist, co-creation and contemporary luxury.”
