The two companies continue to fight for electric vehicle supremacy

Porche’s latest electric heavy hitter vs Telsa’s reliable Model S

Even before its release, the Taycan from Porsche is already in a heated battle with Tesla and its fleet of electric vehicles. First we saw the competition on the Nürburgring track, now it’s a drag racing competition.

Back in September, Tesla issued a blow to the as yet unreleased Taycan when it announced its prototype Model S ‘Plaid’ made it round the Nürburgring race track a full 20 seconds faster than the heaviest-hitting Taycan.

Now the rivalry has been continued as German car show Auto Mobil has put the two cars head to head in a drag race. So who won?

The Model S P100D, the previous generation flagship Tesla, makes around 762 horsepower, while the Porsche Taycan Turbo S makes 616 hp (750 hp with its overboost function). A 0-60 mph stat for the Tesla takes a mere 2.4 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo S gets to the same speed in 2.6 seconds. The top speeds also split hairs where the Turbo S can reach 161 mph and the Model S P100D is limited to 155 mph.

On paper then, the two cars trade blows, the Tesla has a better 0-60 and horsepower stat, though the Taycan has a higher top speed and more modern tech.

The winner of the snappy drag race in the video then was the Taycan Turbo S, just slightly pulling ahead and also being shown to be more agile in the obstacle course. All in all then, the two companies continue to trade blows, Tesla won out at Nürburgring  and Porsche won at the drag race.
