Detective Pikachu has become the highest-grossing video game film ever
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is now the most commercially successful video game movie in history.
According to Amazon’s Box Office Mojo, the film has taken $436-million worldwide, after final reports from Norway, New Zealand and Portugal came in this weekend.
It has now overtaken the previous highest-grossing video game flick, 2016’s Warcraft.
According to movie ranking website Rotten Tomatoes, Detective Pikachu has also become the most critically well-received video game film. It has overtaken both Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage and Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider in scores.
The live-action CGI version of Pokemon stars Justice Smith as a former Pokemon trainer, and Ryan Reynolds as the smart-talking Detective Pikachu.
