Most of the world has to patiently wait till July 18 for the live-action The Lion King movie, though if you’re lucky enough to be in the media, you may have already seen it. Here’s what people are saying.
Unsurprisingly, “visually, it’s stunning”, is something you’re going to hear a lot of people say about this film. The Lion King is Jon Favreau’s next crack at making a live-action Disney film.
Favreau, who is one of Hollywood’s hottest directors/producers at the moment, directed and helped to recreate The Jungle Book back in 2016. It was the overwhelming beauty of this 2016 film that proved CGI could pull off the same charm as the animated classics back in the day.
The 2019 The Lion King movie is in some ways a spiritual sequel to The Jungle Book, using the exact same production methods, Favreau has said he has used all he learned making The Jungle Book to make The Lion King as polished as possible.
So is it?
The most respected movie critics are all coming together to praise this film, from everything from its visuals (duh) to the music, to the emotion-packed moments.
Holy smokes, I really loved THE LION KING. I think (I think) it’s the most beautiful effects movie I’ve seen. Like next level, the game has changed kind of thing. (For the record I’m agnostic on the original movie and have zero nostalgia for it. Anyway, this movie hooked me.)

The music, especially the moments with Glover and Beyonce, whom are both professional musical talents, is said to really shine and in many ways match the catchy rhythms of the original animated take.
The near-reality like effects are so good in fact, Favreau and many of his VFX team members do not consider this film an animated piece, they still see it an a live-action film. That’s how far CGI and VFX has come. The film is in fact made using both real shooting and CGI, so not calling it an animation seems fair.
Been lucky to have attended a number of world premieres but not sure I've ever heard as much clapping during a movie as I did tonight at #TheLionKing . Was like being at a rock concert. Movie is going to make so much money. pic.twitter.com/rnU4qf92mt

Here’s a look at some of the other quick takes throughout Twitter:
#LionKing I've only ever openly cried in 4 movies in my life. It's now 5! Movie is absolutely fantastic. Worthy of the 1994 original. Opening scene had me bawling like a slobbering baby. Hilarious, nostalgic, filled with heart. Loved it.

Oh man #TheLionKing delivers. It’s a visual masterpiece that will leave you smiling and crying the whole time. It’s a true testament to the lasting effect Disney movies have on all generations. Timon and Pumbaa steal the show. And BEYONCE!!! #LionKing

#TheLionKing is my favorite Disney movie of all time, so the new iteration is definitely not designed for me, but it’s easily the best of Disney’s remakes. Visually, it’s stunning – an unparalleled technical achievement that’s like watching a nature documentary.
