British actor and Oscar nominee, Dev Patel was hanging out with his friends in Adelaide, Australia when he saw a man and woman assaulting one another in the street outside of a convenience store.  He arrived just as the man was stabbed in the chest and rushed in to break up the altercation.

According to one of Patel’s representatives speaking to Australia’s 7News, the man survived thanks to Patel’s swift intervention.

“We can confirm that last night, in Adelaide, Dev Patel and his friends witnessed a violent altercation that was already in progress outside of a convenience store,” the actor’s representative said. “Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight. The group was thankfully successful in doing so and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”

Dev Patel wants to highlight marginalized people

Javier Bardem and Dev Patel are brand buddies now

However, the representative emphasized that Dev Patel doesn’t want to be called a hero and that the focus should be on raising awareness of marginalized members of society not being treated with proper respect.

“There are no heroes in this situation and sadly this specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalized members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

“The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (solely because Dev, as a famous person, was involved) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large.”

While it’s clear that Dev Patel didn’t do it for fame or popularity, he should really give Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios a call because he’s got the right mindset to play the MCU’s Captain Britain. Henry Cavill may be the top fan casting for the role, but Patel’s heroism gives him an equal claim to portray the character.

Upcoming projects

Is Dev Patel's role in Lion an Oscar contender?

Last year, Patel starred as Gawain, nephew of King Arthur in the medieval fantasy film The Green Knight and is now currently busy making his Netflix-backed directorial debut with his upcoming action thriller film Monkey Man while also starring in the film.

Apparently Keanu Reeves could have some competition as film has been described as being ‘John Wick in Mumbai’. He’s also set to star alongside Benedict Cumber batch and Ralph Fiennes in The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
