The popularity of E-sports continues to grow and the World Excel Championship is one of the most challenging of them all, as the finest keyboard warriors engage in a battle of the brains.

The event sees eight competitors who excel at using intricate formulas to answer brain-racking questions in a limited amount of time.

The tournament is hosted by the Financial Modelling World Cup and even has its own commentators to help you keep up with the action.

Informative and entertaining

Users on YouTube have claimed that they actually learned something from watching the tournament.

“Probably the most exciting and educational sports event in my lifetime. I actually learned a few things from this.” Said a user.

“It’s like watching an intense game of speed chess and a math competition combined.”

Even if you consider yourself terrible at excel, users who didn’t understand what was going on still found the competition entertaining.

“No idea how or why I ended up here, but after watching all of it, I’m invested but still without a clue.”

Excel wizards can sign up for the next tournament

There’s a total of eight stages of the tournament that are held throughout the year to determine the winner of the annual FMWC. Anyone who thinks they’ve got the brainpower to answer these complicated questions can sign up for the the sixth stage of the FMWC Open 2022 which will take place from September 2 to 5 here.

The finals of the tournament will be held from November 18 to 21.

It costs $20 to take part in the tournament with the winner receiving $7,000 and smaller cash prizes awarded to players coming in 2nd to 10th.

The inaugural FMWC World Cup was in September 2020 which was won by Australian Joseph Lau and last years competition was won by American Diarmuid Early.

It’s actually been an e-sport for quite some time now, with the first Financial Modeling World Cup kicking off in September 2020.

That was won by Australian Joseph Lau and the 2021 competition was won by American Diarmuid Early.
