Pro wrestling’s biggest stars can’t stop making moves. Future WWE World Heavyweight Champion (ahem) Seth Rollins is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: New World Order in an undisclosed role.
Rumours are swirling that Seth Rollins is now a part of the Serpent Society. That would mean that Mr. Monday Night himself could be playing a number of storied characters that date back to the team’s debut back in the 1980s.
Here’s the leaked footage, by the way, courtesy of photographer Christopher Oquendo, based in Atlanta, Florida, where the film is now in production.
But which character is he playing? Is it Sidewinder? Well, let’s take a look at the footage. In the clip, Rollins is wearing a long green cloak with two stripes going down the back. That could give us some clues, but first let’s take a look at the history of these characters.
What is the Serpent Society?
The society, also known as the Serpent Squad or Serpent Solutions at different points, is a group of snake-themed supervillains that first appeared in Captain America #310, published in October 1985. They were created by writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Paul Neary, formed by the villain Sidewinder and each having snake-themed powers.
The gang has aligned themselves with a number of villainous organisations or individuals over the years, from HYDRA, to Maggia to the Kingpin himself, and have gone up against both Cap and Falcon at various times over the last 40 years.
Who could Seth Rollins be playing? All the possibilities
Sidewinder

Seth might be taking on another Seth, this time Seth Voelker, a once-economoics professor who had a cloak that would allow him to teleport. Seth is wearing a long green jacket, which might match Sidewinder’s cloak from the comics, perhaps.
With that trademark evil laugh of his, he could absolutely nail Sidewinder.
Anaconda

A once steelworker from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Anaconda is a cybernetically enhanced super-strong villain with tentacle-like arms and legs that restricts his foes. In other words, the ultimate chokehold–perfect for a wrestling star. This one is unlikely, however, as Anaconda has traditionally been a woman, with a character name of Blanche Sitznski, so would require a gender swap.
Death Adder

Rollins could be playing Roland Burroughs, a mute killer who has talons that contain deadly venom. This would mean he doesn’t speak, which would be a waste of one of the best mic talents in wrestling today.
King Cobra

Klaus Voorhes is a once lab assistant and usual Thor villain who i’d say is second most likely to be the character Rollins is playing. After all, he’s known to be a skilled wrestler, and can contort his body into nearly any shape. Heck, I’m nearly convinced this is it!
Rattler

Gustav Krueger, also known as Rattler, is a Polish criminal in the comics that is nearly deaf but can generate vibrations with a bionic tail. Personally, I don’t see it.
WWE stars jumping to Marvel and Star Wars
He’s not the only wrestling superstar to make the move recently into one of Disney’s biggest franchises. Mercedes Varnado/Sasha Banks is firmly entrenched in the Star Wars universe with her role in The Mandalorian, appearing in the recently-wrapping season 4.
Seth Rollins, of course, is quite busy as of late. He’s also set to take on AJ Styles at the Night of Champions event in Saudi Arabia later this month, and seems likely that he will win the newly-reintroduced WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which looks like big gold with the WWE logo on it. It’s a whole thing.
Rollins has not commented yet on his Captain America: New World Order casting, but we’ll be sure to follow up when he does! Excelsior, and so on.
