Are you one of the 20 million-odd people that watch the obscure network mega-hit The Good Doctor every week? No? Well, then you, like all of Twitter, are in for quite the surprise.
The medical procedural, which stars Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Bates Motel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and developed for English-language television by David Shore (House) from the Korean drama original, remains hugely popular in the real world, just renewed for a seventh season and maintaining positive reviews and strong viewership.
The set up of the show is simple: The Good Doctor has autism, and is a doctor. (Freddie Highmore doesn’t actually have autism, though.) The way that plays out, however, is anything but predictable.
The show has seemingly never traveled to the internet alternate dimension before, as Twitter has discovered the show through a viral clip from the show’s second season, in which Good Doctor (his name on the show is Shaun Murphy, but let’s just call him this instead) screams at Dr. Han (Daniel Dae-Kim, who also produces the series) over and over that he is a surgeon as Han stares on, which has instantly become a meme.
In the wake of that initial virality, people have shared more and more clips, and the world that Shore has created is getting weirder and weirder for the uninitiated. Here are a bunch of our favourites, including the clip that started this whole mess.
