George R. R. Martin, the literary genius behind Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon, has just announced that he’s developed three different animated adaptations taking place in the storylines of A Song of Ice and Fire.
In a recent post on his personal blog, Martin lauded the Netflix animation Blue Eye Samurai, followed by revealing a developing outline for his upcoming shows. Although none of these upcoming projects have received the official greenlight, Martin and HBO are working together on these adaptations.
“HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A Song of Ice & Fire,” Martin penned. “None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.” A prequel to House of the Dragon titled Nine Voyages, which has already been announced, will now also be animated rather than live action.
Despite the success of House of the Dragon, many fans are still reeling from the disastrous final season of GOT, a result of rushed production and, most importantly, bad writing.
A few classic shows that immediately spring to mind are Entourage, Dexter, and Californication (the latter’s final season being so insufferable that, even as a teenager, I struggled to muscle through it).
Well, lucky for GOT fans, at least George R. R. Martin is back to steering the ship. As Alfred Hitchcock once said, “There are three things that make a good film: the script, the script and the script.” That may be a bit exaggerated , but when shows end this badly, one understands the importance of good writing.
