A local Indiana hero, 25-year-old pizza delivery man Nicholas Bostic, saved the lives of five children from their home which was engulfed in flames, in one of the most extraordinary stories of the year.
A pizza delivery driver, Bostic happened to be in the right place at the right time as he was driving down the street when he saw the burning house.
Unable to call 911 because he didn’t have his phone on him, Bostic decided to take matters into his own hands:
“I knew what I was risking. I knew the next second it could be my life. But every second counted.” said Bostic.

The fire started around 12:30am according to Lafayette Police Lt. Randy Sherer who praised Bostic for his heroism.
Lafayette Police released a statement on Twitter saying:
“Nicholas happened to be driving by the block of union street when he noticed a house on fire.”
“He immediately stopped in the roadway, threw his car into reverse, turned around and pulled into the driveway.”
“He knew he had to act. He ran around to the back of the home and was able to open the back door. He began yelling inside but didn’t receive an answer.”
“He walked through the house, calling out the danger, and eventually made his way up the stairs. He found four kids and helped them escape from the house.”
Bostic went back in to rescue another child
After rescuing an 18-year old, two 13-year olds and two small children aged one and six, they told him that another six-year-old girl was still somewhere inside the house and Bostic rushed back in to look for her.

Despite the spreading fire and thick smoke, luckily, Bostic was able to find the girl and managed to punch his way through a window to escape with her.
According to the Indiana police, the pizza driver had to be treated in hospital for a deep cut on his arm and sever smoke inhalation was discharged afterwards.
“I’m glad I was there at the right, time, the right place. If the opportunity came again and I had to do it, I would do it.” claimed Bostic when speaking to ABC7 Chicago.
“The dad said he’d love to take me out to dinner. They have wide-open arms welcoming me as part of their family.”
