Just in time for the holiday season, Penfolds has revealed a collectable trio of beautiful gift boxes designed by acclaimed fashion guru NIGO. Containing some of Penfolds’ most popular wines, the festive gift boxes also feature a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth that matches the colour of the package’s striking exterior.

NIGO was keen to infuse the 2024 Penfolds holiday collection with Japanese culture and included a reusable wrapping cloth known as a furoshiki in every gift box. Traditionally used to wrap or transport goods, the furoshiki is a significant textile in ancient Asian culture.

Arriving at African & Eastern stores in Dubai this December, the Holiday Designed by NIGO collection is the ideal gift not only for the wine connoisseur but also for someone who appreciates bold contemporary design as well as Japanese heritage.

Available for a limited time, the two-tone checkered gift boxes symbolise eternity and prosperity and feature some of Penfolds best loved wines such as Bin 28 Shiraz and Penfolds Max’s Cabernet Sauvignon. The highlight, however, is Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz, a wine that has developed a robust following among collectors in recent years around the world, thanks to its multi-decade ageing potential and strong association to Penfolds flagship wine, Grange.

“It was very important to me to incorporate my culture into this holiday collection,” explains NIGO. “Integrating the checkered design and furoshiki was a clear way for me to honour that. With this furoshiki, I hope collectors can wrap, gift, and share their Penfolds wines this holiday season.”

The Holiday Designed by NIGO range comprises three wines that bring festive cheer to the holidays. Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz in Penfolds signature red includes a playful puffy ‘pillow’ texture effect to further bring the design to life. Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz comes in a bright blue gift box with gold foil embellishments. Lastly, Penfolds Max’s Cabernet Sauvignon arrives in a box wrapped with a distinctive black check.

This is the third time Penfolds has collaborated with NIGO, one of the founding fathers of street fashion who launched his first clothing label in Tokyo in 1993. Now Creative Director of his indie brand Human Made, NIGO is also Artistic Director at Maison KENZO and a Penfolds Creative Partner.

Kristy Keyte, Penfolds Chief Marketing Officer, describes the brand’s first-ever holiday takeover as “an elevated way to gift Penfolds this festive season.” She adds, “Gifting is an important occasion for Penfolds. In Australia alone 55%of people have gifted wine in the last year. The standout packaging of our limited-release Holiday Designed by NIGO range is designed to be gifted, shared, and enjoyed.”
