In a market that’s seen its fair share of collaborations, very few come with this level of weight (and even fewer result in something this rare). Grange La Chapelle 2021 isn’t about hype or trend but rather, a collector’s release that brings together two of the most respected names in winemaking – Penfolds and Domaine de La Chapelle – for a project rooted in mutual admiration, technicality, and a shared legacy.
The newly released vintage unites Australian Shiraz and French Syrah in a limited-edition blend, available in the UAE exclusively by private sale through African + Eastern. Equal parts craftsmanship and character, it marks a significant moment not only for those who follow the global fine wine scene, but also for anyone who appreciates what happens when two giants decide to work in tandem, with complete freedom.

Led by Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago and La Chapelle’s Caroline Frey, the wine is the product of long-standing professional respect and years of shared discussion. Combining Syrah from the famed Hill of Hermitage with Shiraz from South Australia’s most revered vineyards (including old vines in the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Clare Valley) the collaboration explores the potential of a grape with shared roots and divergent paths.
Peter Gago’s role in maintaining the reputation of Penfolds is also a well established one, with Grange recognised as one of the world’s most consistently acclaimed wines. The collaboration with La Chapelle adds a new dimension to this history – one that looks to shared tradition as much as forward momentum. “This friendship created an idea, the idea became a trial, the trial became a wine,” Gago reflects.

Following a private launch at the Monnaie de Paris earlier this year, a select number of clients globally were invited to experience the wine through personal networks. In the UAE, private sales are being handled by African + Eastern. Collectors interested in acquiring Grange La Chapelle 2021 should contact [email protected] to enquire about availability.
Aimed at discerning collectors and serious enthusiasts, this exclusive purchase includes access to a private tasting event on Friday, 30 May, where guests who have acquired Grange La Chapelle will have the rare opportunity to experience this limited-edition vintage.

As Penfolds continues to strengthen its presence in the region, the winemaker will host an exclusive dinner at Jara by Martín Berasategui at The Lana, Dubai, on Thursday, 26 June. Guests will be served a five-course tasting menu curated by the Michelin-starred chef, paired with some of Penfolds most significant vintages, including Grange 1983 and 1991. Marking his first-ever wine dinner in Dubai, Penfolds Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago, will be in attendance to share expert insights into the featured wines, enriching the evening with his depth of knowledge and passion. Seats are limited and priced at AED 2,588 per person (tickets can be purchased here).
