Swifties are still in mourning as details of the now-failed romance between modern music icon Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn continue to emerge, days after the announcement came that the relationship between the two stars was over.

But why did Alwyn break up with Swift? A source close to the thespian said that the couple has grown apart, due in part to the fact that she is too famous for him.

“Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public,” a source told People. “The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn: Why they parted ways

Part of the reason the relationship was able to survive six years even while the singer remained one of the most popular people on earth with a level of passion from her fans currently at Michael Jackson levels is because of the pandemic lockdowns, which allowed them to live in peace.

“They had plenty in common and  fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during Reputation,” adds the source, referring to her 2017 studio album. “Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.”

He even became a songwriter for Swift, using the pseudonym William Bowery on credits, on all of her last three albums, totalling 10 in total.

Yep, that’s six songs on Folklore, three on Evermore, and Midnights’ song “Sweet Nothing.”

Now, the “differences in their personalities” have become too much to bear.

“They’ve had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together. [They] weren’t the right fit for one another.”

This is a sharp change from earlier this year, when the two were  “talking about marriage as recently as a few months ago.”

Apparently the singer herself did not see the relationship working out.

“Taylor didn’t see them working out in the long run,” said the source.

“They are friendly. She doesn’t have anything bad to say about Joe. They just grew apart. Taylor is staying very focused on her tour right now.”

Swift is popular globally, and is one of the most streamed artists in the UAE, according to Spotify data.
