Great news for residents of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as you can now get an e-visa to Japan, and we’ve got all the details on how.

Yep, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a new online tourist visa system, and only residents of select few countries, including the the Emirates and KSA, as well as Brazil, UK, USA, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Taiwan, Singapore and South Africa.

This, of course, is only for people without a criminal record, violations or deportations, and doesn’t work if you have Japanese Citizenship, even under a dual basis.

You also can’t apply if it’s less than seven days before travel, so be sure to book this in advance!

Getting a Japan online tourist visa in 9 easy steps

If you are planning to visit Japan and need to apply for a visa, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official Japan e-visa site here.
  2. Register for an account using a valid email address and create a secure password.
  3. Please note that PDF data, screenshots, or printouts of the application page will not be accepted.
  4. Provide the necessary information for verification of the required visa to visit Japan.
  5. Submit an image that is less than 6 months old, and hasn’t been used before, isn’t a group photo, and hasn’t been used for a driver’s license or passport previously
  6. Enter all the required applicant details in the designated fields.
  7. After submitting your application, you will receive a notification of its acceptance or rejection via the registered email address.
  8. A visa fee will be charged if your application is accepted.
  9. Upon successful completion of the payment transaction, the e-visa will be issued to you.
