Smith Junior rocks chicks clothes

Louis Vuitton has released it’s new SS16 womenswear campaign, which you might think is not that relevant to you, but look a bit closer. Yep, the campaign stars Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s 17 year old son, modelling the collection alongside some leggy female runway models.

Womenswear Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquiere posted the teaser shots on his Instagram yesterday, and it’s safe to say the Internet has exploded. Seeing as Smith’s own style is pretty androgynous anyway, the young aspiring photographer, the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, doesn’t look that out of place in the fringed top and pleated skirt. In fact we’d go as far to say he does a good job fitting in quite seamlessly and we don’t think he looks completely ridiculous. I mean the kid is 17, the clothes are Louis Vuitton and the campaign was shot by iconic photographer Bruce Weber, which certainly helps in the cool stakes. Will more guys be wearing skirts any time soon? Probably not, but it’s an interesting move for the French fashion house in an age where gender norms are being challenged more and more. Just take the feminine pussy-bow blouses and crop-sleeved jackets that have been popping up in Gucci’s menswear collections ever since Alessandro Michele took over last year.

We all scoffed at David Beckham when we dared to wear a sarong in 1998, but maybe the style-icon was just ahead of his time. And in the meantime, we’ll take our hats off to Smith Junior, the kid is definitely unique which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Oh, to be 17 again.
