Yesterday the United Arab Emirates recorded its coldest day of recent memory, with the mercury plunging to a chilly 5.3°C. This significant temperature drop was observed in Raknah, Al Ain, early in the morning on January 10th.
The cold snap wasn’t confined to Raknah alone. Jebel Jais recorded a low of 7.2°C the day before. It seems that since the calendar flipped to 2024, dipping below 10°C has become a norm in the UAE, particularly in the mountains.
This year’s winter, however, has been comparatively milder. December, typically a month where the chill sets in more pronouncedly, saw higher average temperatures than in past years. This shift in weather patterns has been a topic of discussion among meteorologists and locals alike.
Make the most of the cooler weather
For adventure seekers and nature lovers, the cold weather is a call to the mountains. Jebel Jais, with its snow-capped peaks during the winter months, remains a favorite place to visit in the cooler months.

As the UAE continues to experience these cooler temperatures, it’s a perfect time for residents to pull out their cozy sweaters and enjoy the unique chill that has swept across the country.
And hey, at least it’s not raining:
