Want to grow your following on Instagram organically, and are feeling stuck? You’re in luck. We’ve got the inside scoop on how to master the algorithm in 2023, due to an alleged leaked list of things that the app is looking for from users in order to show them favor.
The list comes from TikTok user @arthurJ0nes, who say that Instagram reached out to him and other users to give them a list of the things the algorithm is looking for in order to start showing some love to its users, quoting Arthur Jones.
How to master the Instagram algorithm in 2023

- Don’t edit in capcut or any external editing software – they’ll push stuff further if you edit in app
- 100% don’t upload anything with a TikTok watermark, as the algorithm will HATE IT (use Snaptik and re-upload instead)
- Post to grid EVERY day to get algorithm to favour your content
- Don’t use black borders or post square/landscape videos. Algorithm favours vertical (9×16)
- Use 3 hashtags per post, no more than 5 or the app considers this spammy
- Captions are now more important than the hashtag, so optimize them for search terms
- Post 5 to 6 times a day to your stories, and spread things out evenly, so two in the morning, two mid-day, two in the afternoon and evening
- Include more CTAs (calls to action) in your stories, such as polls, questions, etc.
- Engage with as many comments as possible, ideally with a comment back, as that gets people to view your post twice, which the algorithm loves
- Reels, reels, reels!

Whether or not these were actually given to Arthur Jones via instagram is anyone’s guess, but these are general best practices for how to get these apps to notice you.
The comment section, of course, feels anything but love for these tips, feeling that Instagram basically wants you to stay on the app all day and have nothing else to do with your time in order to grow, leading many to say this post made them want to delete the app altogether.
Ah well. This is the life we lead in modern social media.
Good luck out there, everyone!
