Honor has just unwrapped its X9 5G smartphone – a blower that gives you super speedy charging technology, a whopping great high-res screen, and four frickin’ cameras.
That’s not even the best bit: now that Honor has shrugged off its parent company Huawei (which is still in the doghouse with the likes of Google) the X9 runs all the Android app bells and whistles you’d want in a phone (including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, etc.).
But the smartphone world has never been more competitive; and the world is awash with shiny new slabs of smartphone technology. Does the Honor X9 5G do enough to warrant a place in your pocket?
Honor X9 5G review: Design
It looks pretty good. You get a 1.05mm bezel giving it a screen-to-body ratio of 94 per cent. Elsewhere, it feels good in the hand and comes in two colours; silver and black.
At the back the camera array is arranged in a circle, and the fingerprint sensor sits on the right beneath the power button.
Honor X9 5G review: Screen
The display is a big deal, literally. You get a 6.81-inch FullView display that pops with colour out the box (although, traditionalists will want to play with the settings).
The Honor X9 5G supports full high-definition resolution of 2388*1080 pixels with 16.7 million colors.
Which should do fine for photos, movies, or gaming. You also get a scaling screen refresh – from buttery-smooth 120Hz and below (it scales dynamically).
Honor X9 5G review: Features
Under the hood you get a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, and what Honor calls “RAM Turbo Technology”. We’re not sure exactly what that means, but it makes the X9 pretty fast when it comes to swapping between apps.
The Honor X9 also supports Honor’s innovative 66W Honor Wired SuperCharge technology. This can charge the Honor X95G up to 50 per cent in 15 minutes, and 81 per cent in 30 minutes.
Honor X9 5G review: Verdict
The Honor X9 5G is a decently-specced phone that will more than handle any mobile task you may throw at it. The screen is big and bright, and the design is inoffensive.
