And it only took ten frickin’ years of eager anticipation to hear so much as a peep, but we can now finally breathe a sigh of relief as Rockstar games has just announced the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date will be announced sometime in the next few weeks (assuming they’re not pulling our leg yet again).

“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto,” Houser added. “We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”

Next month marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic Rockstar Games, responsible for the entire Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchise, the cult-favourite’s Bully and Manhunt, and many more games, that defined multiple generations of adolescence and have become as much of a staple in the current zeitgeist as any other form of entertainment today.

Although the announcement has not included an official title for, what many would assume, would be titled Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar did address the leaked footage from last year, saying, “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.”

Luckily, this computer hacker criminal was arrested for his cyberattack on Rockstar Games, but if he manages to get his hands on a new copy of GTA VI, then perhaps he can prepare himself for jail.

If leaked footage is to believed, then a female protagonist will be included in the new game which is, again, rumoured, to be taking place in Vice City.

Either way, the internet’s response has been nothing short of volcanic, so it’s safe to say this is one of the biggest announcements in recent years, and we are all very, very excited.
