We asked two members of the locally based Caravan design collective, Emanuela Corti and Ivan Parati, what their ten favourite 3D designs/concepts are and why they are special. All ahead of tonight’s Through the Lens installation, which will unite four of the best UAE-based designers at Galeries Lafayette.

FURNITURE
1. Formafantasma – De Natura Fossiluim:
For the first time lava stone is used as a material in design.
2. Kwangho Lee – Enameled Skin Copper Series:
We love how Kwangho plays with industrial materials.
3. Max Lamb – Crockery Black Basalt:
This is expressing the new link between designer, craftsman and industry.
4. Heatherwick Studio – Spun:
Design should always talk to the child hidden behind our serious faces and this chair is doing exactly that.

PRODUCT
5. Benjamin Hubert – 3D-printed wheelchair:
Design has the responsibility to improve everyone’s quality of life and the disabled shouldn’t be excluded from using beautiful and functional objects.
6. Yves Béhar – One Laptop per Child:
Similar to the previous reason, we chose this as the design has a social responsibility towards the weakest parts of our society.
7. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec – Screens:
This project is a light element that defines space in the same manner that natural structures do, it’s a system rather than a product and is very interesting.

INTERIOR
8. Vincenzo De Cotiis – Residential Milan:
Redefining luxury standards through a timeless yet sophisticated aesthetic, able to sustain a profound dialogue along with the historical context.
FASHION
9. Del Pozo – Latest collection:
The material research and garments cuts are amazing.
10. Maxhosa by Laduma:
An interpretation of African culture through fashion design.
View the installation until 6 November at Galeries Lafayette, Dubai Mall.
