The roads of the UAE are densely populated with supercars and sports cars of all varieties, the city has an esteemed visitor gracing its roads today though. The first automobile to ever adorn the Ferrari badge, the Ferrari 125 S, is making its first visit to the Middle East this weekend.
The grandfather of all Ferraris is going to be displayed at the Casa Ferrari event at Yas links this weekend from November 18th to 20th. Celebrating their 75th anniversary, the brand’s display of the car that marked their origin is an important one.
The significance of the model
Obviously the first car to wear the prancing horse is significant in its own right, but the 125 S holds accolades that immortalizes it in automobile history. The world knows the vehicle as the car that brought Ferrari its first victorious race result in 1947. The first triumph for a brand that would go on to garner the most Formula 1 wins in history.
The 125 S was the brainchild of famed Italian automobile engineer Gioachino Colombo(pictured center in left image), who was commissioned by Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari to design an innovative car that could kick off an unparalleled sporting career. The heart of the vehicle is its 12 cylinder engine, which brought the prancing horse success on the tracks and also inspired the car’s moniker. the 125 comes from the unit displacement, 125 multiplied by 12 gives the car a displacement of the engine unit 1,500cc. the S stands for sport, fitting assuming the phenomenal track record of the vehicle, accumulating 6 wins in 1947. The first of those wins occurred during the 40-lap Rome Grand Prix, driving the 125 S was Ferrari’s first hero driver, Franco Cortese.
Where to see the Ferrari 125 S
As previously stated, the car will be parked at Yas Links from November 18th to 20th, but it has a few stops after that so don’t worry if you can’t make it. After this Grand Prix weekend, the car will make its way to Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi and remain there until December 2nd. Finally the 125 S will find itself in Dubai, being showcased at the Al Tayer Motors showroom from December 5th to 14th.
