His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has just announced that Expo City Dubai will open in later this year in October.

“After the historical success of Expo 2020 Dubai, visited by more than 24 million visitors & left a mark in the 170-year history of World Expositions. Today we announce transformation of the exhibition site into Expo City Dubai, a new city that represents the ambitions of Dubai.” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Twitter.

The site of the Expo 2020 has been transformed into Expo City Dubai and is expected to be a futuristic hub for business and innovation.

“This new city will be home to a new museum, a world-class exhibition centre and the headquarters of cutting edge & fast-growing companies. It will continue to host the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt and others. It will be a city that embodies the dreams of every city.”

A wide range of facilities such as offices, leisure facilities, sports facilities, food and entertainment venues and a mall are to be expected. The Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), which hosted a wide range of events during Expo 2020 Dubai such as concerts, global summits, conferences, and activations is expected to continue doing so and more in Expo City Dubai.

The location will soon become home to the new headquarters of DP World, Siemens as well as new start-ups and other small and medium enterprises.

“Expo City Dubai will be an environmentally-friendly city that caters to families and future generations. A city connected to a port and two airports, and also to beautiful memories in the hearts and minds of millions of people.”

The entire city will become the first WELL certified community in the region. It will retain 80% of the Expo 2020’s infrastructure and buildings, including the 123 LEED certified buildings which indicates the highest levels of sustainability and will be free of single use plastic.
