Calling all cosplay and film fanatics, get ready to ‘geek your heart out’ for the Middle East Film & Comic Con, which returns for the 13th year in a row in Abu Dhabi next year, April 18 – 20, 2025. Tickets are on sale now and can be found here.

But if you’ve ever dreamed of participating in the film world rather than just being a spectator, you’re in luck, as the MEFCC has just announced a short film competition. The theme for the 2025 competition is ‘strength’, and the winners will be awarded cash prizes of up to AED 10,000, with their films being shown in front of thousands of viewers both in person and online.

Additional Competition Information:

  • 1st Prize: AED 10,000
  • 2nd Prize: AED 6,000
  • 3rd Prize: AED 4,000
  • Open to all genres, but no commercial material allowed.
  • Films must be 6-8 minutes (including credits).
  • English or Arabic submissions with English subtitles.
  • Submission deadline is February 14, 2025.
  • Open to UAE Residents only.

Last year, Oscar Isaac was in attendance, along with Iñaki Godoy, James & Oliver Phelps, and many other iconic actors and celebrities.

Assuming that we finally get our long promised Blade reboot next year, don’t be surprised if Mahershala Ali (slated to be playing the titular vampire slayer) makes an appearance at next year’s attraction.
