Dubai’s about to take its love for cycling up a notch, as it gears up to host the first L’Étape Dubai event, styled after the famous Tour de France. Scheduled for February 1 and 2, this cycling event is set to lure both hardcore cyclists and casual enthusiasts from not just the UAE, but from across the globe. The event will feature two different categories designed to cater to varied levels of endurance and enthusiasm.

The main attraction, “The Race,” covers an extensive 101km stretch that takes riders on a challenging journey through Dubai’s scenic sites. However, for those who aren’t ready for such a rigorous challenge, “The Ride” offers a more laid-back 50km course, still promising some jaw-dropping views of Dubai’s stunning cityscape and its tranquil desert surroundings.

Starting from the Dubai Design District (D3), cyclists will trace a route that concludes at the bustling Expo Village Park. The courses snake past iconic landmarks and offer breathtaking views, providing cycling aficionados with not just a test of muscle, but a feast for the eyes too.

In true Tour de France style, there are dedicated sprint segments where sprinters can push their limits. These sections are meant to simulate a professional racing environment, offering a taste of the exhilarating pace and heart-thumping excitement associated with European cycling tours.

Speaking of the logistics, “The Ride” tilts heavily on the scenic, taking you on a near 50-kilometer stretch of the Dubai-Al Ain Road (E66) and Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (D54) before culminating at the energetic Expo Village. “The Race,” however, takes you deeper into Dubai’s landscape; pushing into the desert along Expo Road (E77) for a tougher loop before heading back.
