Dubai Sunset Open Surfing
In Dubai, there’s no better time to head to the beach than now. Not only is weather warm and the days are starting to get longer, but the winter winds bring with them another blessing in the form of head-high waves. With these waves comes the Annual Sunset Open surfing competition.
Back for its eighth year, the region’s only surfing competition takes place on Umm Suqeim Beach – commonly referred to by locals as Sunset Beach – and has something to offer the whole family.
The competition plans a whole fun filled day at the beach for people of all ages. With activities available to spectators both in and out of the water that range from yoga, beach fitness games and even surfing lessons. But these activities won’t be limited to just beach enthusiasts, the competition will also have other attractions like live music, and skateboarding demos.
If you’re wondering why we haven’t mentioned the exact date of the competition yet, it’s because due to the unpredictability of weather patterns and wave conditions, surfing competitions are normally confirmed very late on. In fact, the Sunset Open’s organisers will only be able to finalise the competition day four days before it takes place.
The competition itself, will consist of six categories along with a new competitive category of paddle boarding debuting this year. The competition is open to people of all ages, ability, and gender requiring only a registration to secure a spot.
If you like revelling in surfing culture, but aren’t much on a board, don’t worry, there will also be a Sounds by the Sea after-party to be held in partnership with Fair Played Music Dubai, and will take place on March 25 at the Cove Beach, Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
