The Dubai Photo Exhibition
Photography has seen tremendous growth in the Gulf region over the last decade. The interest (and talent) has been steadily growing and Dubai is showing its commitment to becoming the hub of it all with a new exhibition. Dubai Photo Exhibition is the latest exhibition on the block and is looking to be the one to harness, support and nurture the photography talent in the region.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and organized by HIPA, the exhibition is gearing up for its big debut in March 2016 with the hopes of taking Dubai one step closer to becoming a key player in the global photography world.
The exhibition will see masterworks from 23 countries around the world gathered in one place. Works from 20th century grandmasters to the first self-portrait ever taken will be put on display for the public. The exhibition is aiming to help educate people in the evolution of photography and show people some common traits in photography that transcend generations. The exhibition also hopes to give the public a truly global perspective view of photography.
His Excellency Ali bin Thalith, the Secretary General of HIPA has said, “We have a great respect for the international photography scene and aspire to nurture Dubai to not only stand shoulder to shoulder with them but to one day become a global photography hub. We want photography to have a home here.”
The exhibition will be housed in a ‘temporary museum’ that was specifically created to house the exhibition in the Dubai Design District (d3). The exhibition will also look to pay tribute to several mediums. These mediums involve film and video, vintage prints, daguerrotypes, platinum prints and much more. The works will contain everything from the most beautiful work ever made, to landscape and portraiture from the greatest photographers, even new works previously unseen from new artists.
We could go on talking about the event, but there’s too much to talk about. The point is, if you are even remotely interested in photography, then this is the event for you. If not for the exhibition, this will be your chance to meet photography experts, artists, collectors or even photography aficionados.
