Avoid an AED 10,000 fine by following this list

In wake of the fact that Abu Dhabi police have busted 39 gatherings this month, the UAE Public Prosecution has posted all the activities that are banned during the current month of Ramadan in the UAE, in light of the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic.

With that in mind, we’ve laid out the list of banned activities during this holy month of Ramadan.

The following activities are illegal in the UAE during Ramadan 2021:

1. Gatherings and parties are banned across the UAE.

Do a Zoom quiz. Remember those?

2. It is illegal to gather for Iftar, attend or host social visits.

Use social media and video calling services to communicate and celebrate with family and friends.

3. Family and organizational Iftar tents are banned.

This includes Ramadan tents offering food, beverages and shisha.

4. Sharing Iftar meals in front of homes, with neighbors, or with the mosque is prohibited.

What is normally humanitarian practice is unsafe during COVID-19.

5. Restaurants and other food services must also refrain from sharing Iftar meals with people inside or in front of the restaurant.

Keep your food to yourself, everyone!

6. Sharing the Quran or other gifts in the workplace is prohibited.

Safety is paramount. Consider sharing passages digitally.

7. Holding Majlis or council meetings is also prohibited.

Use a group chat to gather with relatives and friends instead.

8. DO NOT eat or drink in public.

While this one is very obvious, we must reiterate that you can only eat or drink inside or immediately outside a restaurant.

The penalty for social gatherings is an AED 10,000 fine for hosts and an AED 5000 fine for attendees.

Stay safe everyone!
