We talk to the winners of the Esquire Middle East Man at His Best Awards for 2018

For most chefs, the first day in a professional kitchen normally doesn’t include a trip to the hospital having chopped off the top of a finger. Most chefs also wouldn’t return the next day (after being told not to) because of an undeniable drive to do the job properly. Well, it is a good thing that David Myers is not like most chefs.

Having taken on the moniker of the “Gypsy Chef”, this American Michelin-starred chef has gone on to have a hugely successful career opening restaurants in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong. However, to crown a wonderful 2017, he recently opened not one, but three new venues in Dubai at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel.

What does this award mean to you?
This is a huge feeling for me. Coming to Dubai and opening three establishments here is a dream come true. It’s been a total whirlwind, and when you add in that I am being recognised by Esquire, that is pretty amazing.

Is there anyone that you would like to thank?
All the credit goes to my teams here in the UAE, as well my guys in Los Angeles who are just stellar in their work and their ideas. It’s because of them that I can truly express my version of hospitality to people around the world.
