The latest Gent’s Evening took place last night at City Walk’s Lima Dubai. The theme was “Discussing Craftsmanship” and a panel discussion took place with event partners, Maserati and SuitSupply.
Maserati, of course, is the Italian luxury car manufacturer, established in 1914. The brand is renowned for its exclusivity, Italian design, signature sound and performance. Its product portfolio consists of its flagship sedan, the Quattroporte; the sports executive sedan, the Ghibli; the successful GranTurismo and GranCabrio, as well as its first SUV, the Levante.
Suit Supply was founded in 2000 in Amsterdam. The brand is known for choosing unconventional retail locations. It is a member of the Fair Wear Foundation and uses fabrics sourced from the historic mills of Italy. Suit supply was named among the best places for suits in New York City by New York Magazine in 2012. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2011 that a luxury-brand suit priced at $3,625 equaled the quality of a Suitsupply suit priced at $614.
Luca Delfino from Maserati and Alex Sundler from Suitsupply joined Esquire editor-in-chief Jeremy Lawrence to discuss the finer points of craftsmanship in relation to their brands. A well-dressed crowd listened intently and asked questions from the floor related to the subject.
Afterwards, Chivas cocktails were served amid the sleek surroundings of Lima Dubai, which has been a valuable addition to the nascent F&B scene in the luxury surroundings of City Walk.
The conclusion of the evening was that, in a fast-paced, digitised world, the time-honoured principles of luxury craftsmanship will become more important as refined individuals look for products and services of value and substance. And we’ll toast to that!
