Uncovering Ramadan

The Holy Month of Ramadan for non-Muslims in the Gulf requires some adjustments. Apart from a slight alteration in eating and drinking (and the reduced work hours) a lot of non-Muslims don’t really have a lot of insight into this religious time. And it is exactly this subject that Gulf Photo Plus’ Observing The Ritual exhibition is looking to shed light upon this summer.

The exhibition brings together three artists to share their insight of intimate moments and spaces in Muslim culture.

The works of Italian artist Nicolò Degiorgis, Emirati artist Ammar Al Attar, and British-Lebanese photographer Natalie Naccache are complemented by talks and workshops that take you inside the lives of people from different economic backgrounds as they observe the Holy Month.

The aim of the exhibition is to shed light on these intimate moments that are often unknown to people other than practicing Muslims. It’s an opportunity for people to learn more about the culture that plays such a central role in our lives in the Gulf.
