No sooner had the Watch GT 3 Pro made its mark than Huawei unveiled its prodigious successor, the Watch GT 4. Available in two rather large sizes, 41mm and 46mm, is it just a sizeable upgrade, or has Huawei truly outdone itself this time?
Design dynamics
Both sized models scream luxury without weighing down your wrist — a feather-light 48 grams, not counting the band. The watch’s stainless steel body feels class, while its octagonal design, married with subtle curves, brings a touch of the avant-garde. It’s certainly one of the better-looking smartwatches on the market right now.
A display to behold
The 46mm variant packs a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, boasting a sharp 466 x 466 resolution and 326 PPI (in non-tech speak – that’s pin-sharp).
Heart of the watch
Though Huawei’s kept the exact chipset a secret, the watch’s seamless performance tells us everything you need to know about the power under the hood. Equipped with the TrueSeen 5.5+ heart rate sensor and a revamped GNSS radio, it precisely tracks everything from sleep patterns to menstrual cycles. And while the absence of ECG is felt, the SpO2 feature compensates.
Software under the lens
The GT4 is powered by Huawei’s own HarmonyOS 4.0, so the Watch GT 4 plays well with Android 8+ and iOS 13.0+. A mandatory pairing with the HUAWEI Health app unlocks is required, however. Fancy a fresh watch face? You’ve got 25,000 to pick from. Yet, when it comes to third-party apps, choices are, regrettably, lean.
Features in the forefront
Fitness aficionados, rejoice! With a myriad of sports modes (both auto-detect and manual), tracking your activity has never been more enjoyable. The beefed-up GPS is a revelation. While tactile feedback could be sharper, audio clarity during calls is top-notch.
Battery excellence
14 days of battery life on paper translates to 10 to 14 days of actual use. And if you’re ever running low, a brief 20-minute charge keeps it ticking for over a day, with an hour restoring it to 70%.
The verdict
HUAWEI’s Watch GT 4, with its refined aesthetics and vivid display, checks many boxes, notably in health tracking and battery longevity. However, a limited app ecosystem may deter some.
Yet, given its competitive pricing, it holds its own against market rivals.
