Royal Salute, renowned for its meticulously aged Scotch whisky, unveils the second edition of its Art of Wonder collection: the Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross. This series of extraordinary artworks, designed to complement exceptional blends, showcases collaborations with today’s most visionary artists. Inspired by the art of whisky blending, these creations serve as enduring tributes to the profound impact of creativity.
In the second installment of the Art of Wonder series, renowned sculptor Conrad Shawcross aimed to highlight the interconnectedness of time between fine art and luxury whisky. The resulting masterpiece, the Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross, limited to just 21 editions, combines a hand-spun glass disc with a crystal decanter. It serves to embody the multifaceted nature of time while housing a bespoke 53 Year Old Royal Salute blend.
Unveiled at the Frieze Art Fair in London, Shawcross’s complete vision, titled “Beyond The Beginning,” graced the Royal Salute Gallery Bar from October 11 to 15, 2023.
On February 26, 2024, a select group of guests were invited to a private event at TODA Dubai to experience the Time Chamber firsthand. Through a sensorial journey, attendees were immersed in a captivating environment that harmonised the distinctive arts of Royal Salute and Conrad Shawcross.
“Just like the theme of time that has inspired Conrad’s piece of art, time is at the core of what we do when blending Royal Salute expressions; it factors into the incredible scarcity of the delicate, high-aged stock that we used in this blend,” said Sandy Hyslop when when speaking of the Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross. “Working with these whiskies infuses a greater sense of appreciation for the time represented by their age. Time is a crucial element in the making of whisky. You can’t rush the slow maturation of these exceptional liquids over decades and generations. Only by allowing the progression of time to take its effect on a whisky are we able to experience the extraordinary richness and depth of character of flavours that develop through time alone.”
