Local fan favourite and staple of eclectic entertainment, Dubai’s Cinema Akil will be presenting the 2nd ever Hong Kong film festival starting this Friday on November 10 until the 16.

The independent Cinema Akil Dubai, is the GCC’s first ever arthouse movie theatre, and is one of the most respected, must-visit destinations for cinephiles across the region.

The nearly weeklong event gives access to 7 different films, touching all genres from Bruce Lee Kung Fu classics, to contemporary dramas, showcasing the decades of artistic excellence Hong Kong has given the world. The Kung Fu classic in question being 1972’s The Way of The Dragon (fun fact: Bruce Lee’s kicks were so fast, that they had to slow down the footage in order for it to be visible on screen).

Adding to the list of films is the 1997 heart breaking drama, Made in Hong Kong, which currently boasts a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. And playing both November 8 and 9, is this year’s 2023 Cannes Film Festival winner, Anatomy of a Fall.

This is a must for any movie fanatic, and if you’ve seen The Matrix, then you owe it to yourself to see where the inspiration came from.
