Hard to believe, but it’s already been seven years since CDLP burst onto the scene in 2016, revolutionising men’s underwear and basics, taking the oft-overlooked pieces of a man’s wardrobe and turning them into an essential building block of each meticulously-crafted outfit, even in the most casual of circumstances.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, the line of essentials such as underwear, swimwear and homewear, available now at Harvey Nichols Dubai, just got a huge addition with the brand’s latest capsule.

For Mobilité, its latest collection, CDLP has re-interpreted classic athletic wear with robust, heavyweight fabrics and relaxed fits, adding essentials that are built from ideation to execution for wellbeing.

To debut the autumn winter 2021 capsule, CDLP has enlisted the iconic ‘alpha male’ himself, Dolph Lundgren. The actor, director, producer and martial artist, whose iconic role as the Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV (1985) is still vivid in the cultural memory and has helped shaped the idea of the ultimate alpha through multiple generations.

The technical base layer is designed for physical performance, with enhanced flexibility, mesh ventilation, non-chafing seams, no-tag constructions, and superior moisture wicking and quick-drying properties. The line is developed using organic, regenerated and recycled materials.

For Lundgren, who’s currently in the midst of a career renaissance, his training focuses on strengthening the mind as much as the body—a perfect fit for the Mobilité ethos, according to CDLP.

CDLP artistic director Christian Larson was drawn to Lundgren for his life experience and philosophy—reinforcing his knack to focus on persona over hype. The antithesis of traditional masculinity, he is humbly self-aware—connected to his emotions, peacefully confident, inspirational, and aspirational.

What’s the future for CDLP? Expect the same commitment to excellence in the same spaces, with more sportswear in store in the coming years, Larson tells Esquire Middle East.

“It was important for me and Andreas to expand from underwear. Now we have launched the programmes that we have always believed in, homeware, swim, sportswear. We are not going to expand to any other programmes for now but go deeper, with more focus on each one,” says Larson.
