The praise written about Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo collection could pave all the roads in Rome. It’s clear to see that the luxury watchmaker knows a good thing when it has one, hence the (two) new addition to the heralded Octo Finissimo CarbonGold line: the Automatic and the Perpetual Calendar.

The ultra-thin Octo Finissimo collection solidified Bulgari’s place in the watchmaking Pantheon, due to its impressively elegant design and mind-blowingly thin cases. A CarbonGold version was first added to the line in 2016, making it the first watch to combine carbon fibre with gold, creating a material that was lightweight, durable, and had a unique, shimmering appearance.

Last month, Bulgari added two new bedfellows to the CarbonGold version, an Automatic and a Perpetual Calendar – only increasing the appeal of pieces that are already very sought after.

Both new timepieces are powered by in-house movements from Bulgari. The Automatic model is powered by the BVL 138 calibre —a self-winding movement with a power reserve of 60 hours—while the Perpetual Calendar model is powered by the BVL 305 calibre, a similar self-winding movement but with the addition of a complex perpetual calendar complication that keeps track of the date, day of the week, month, and year, even during leap years.

Naturally, being part of the Octo Finissimo collection, the watches are both incredibly thin, with the Automatic model measuring just 6.4mm thick, the Perpetual Calendar model a mere 7.4mm thick. But it is the addition of the complications in stunning CarbonGold that will ensure that people will be continue writing praise for the Octo Finissimo for a good while yet.
