If you’ve caught a glimpse of the limited edition Mercedes-AMG GT 63 ‘APXGP Edition’ roaring across your social media, you’d probably think that it looks like it is something straight out of a movie – well, that’s because it is.

To celebrate this summer’s major Brad Pitt-fronted blockbuster, F1, the clever people at Mercedes-AMG have developed this bold and brooding road car inspired by the livery of the film’s fictional racing team APXGP.

Restricted to only 52 units globally, the paintwork on each of the coupés has been meticulously applied by hand with APXGP-specific designs.

The car itself looks bold, with matte black paint, gold wheels, and race-style details like a large rear wing and carbon-fibre parts. Inside, there are gold touches, premium leather seats, and a numbered badge showing which of the 52 it is.

Unveiled during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, adding to the buzz around both the race and the movie, the car is powered with a V8 biturbo engine paired with Mercedes’ Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, promising the kind of speed and grip you’d expect from a car inspired by Formula 1. It also features advanced tech like rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilisation for sharper handling.

The special-edition model celebrates the cinematic world of high-speed racing portrayed in F1, where Mercedes also contributed to the design of the movie’s race cars. These were built on Formula 2 chassis and made to resemble top-tier machines.

Directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, F1 sees Brad Pitt as a retired racing driver who returns to mentor a rising Formula One star, played by Damson Idris.

In a real piece of innovative filmmaking, parts of the F1 film were actually shot during real Formula 1 races throughout the 2024 season, with Mercedes-AMG providing cars and technical support, including their official Safety and Medical Cars. Even seven-time world champ Lewis Hamilton is involved as a producer. A sports car first and foremost, this coupé is also practical for everyday driving with its 2+2 seating configuration and usable cargo space, bringing fans the closest experience yet to driving like Brad Pitt.
