Bollywood megastar Alia Bhatt graces the latest cover of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and what a cover it is, instantly going viral across the world. The shoot, however, may be even better, with comments online that it is perhaps the best shoot of the young actor’s career.

“This is amazing!” commented one Twitter user.

Bhatt, in conversation with HBA’s Editor in Chief Olivia Phillips, commented on how Indian filmmaking has transformed with the younger generation, shedding it of much of the misogyny that once plagued the industry.

“Things have changed a lot in the Indian film industry. All the movies we make, the people we are, it’s just a subtle reflection of where we’re at as a society. I feel the younger generation being more vocal helps build out the narrative for women today. And also, of course, all the work that women have [already] done,” she told Phillips.

“I’m 30, but all the work that women have done for the last 30 years before me has led us to this moment. There’s still a lot of work left to do, but we have to continuously lead by example. Even the fact that I got pregnant at such a young age, still working as an actor and working through my pregnancy, I found that it was so normal. Ninety per cent of people were like, ‘Yeah, cool, she’s pregnant, she’s working, whatever.’ It wasn’t even a conversation. I shot an action movie while pregnant. So slowly, slowly, as long as you’re clear on what your standards are, you can put down the most dinosaurish thoughts.”

Esquire Middle East interviews Alia Bhatt

Esquire Middle East also sat down with Bhatt recently, in which we discussed her working relationship with her husband and collaborator, Ranbir Kapoor.

“One of the things that I really admire about Ranbir is something that I also have learned through the process of working on Brahmāstra with him. It’s his service to his craft,” Bhatt says.“I don’t think there’s any better actor to work with.”
