The winter holidays may be over, but the spring holidays are on the horizon, and UAE consumers are gearing up for journeys that promise bespoke and unforgettable experiences. According to the American Express Middle East Trendex Survey, nearly everyone — 97% of respondents — plan to travel during the upcoming holiday season. 

The survey revealed that luxury and personalisation are no longer optional. Travellers are willing to spend more to ensure every detail feels bespoke. From private transportation to first-class accommodations, it’s clear that UAE consumers are prioritising experiences that cater to their individual tastes. In fact, a staggering 78% of respondents expressed their readiness to spend more in tailored experiences, whether it’s an exclusive cultural tour, a private yacht excursion, or a dining experience curated by world-class chefs. On average, travellers plan to spend AED 7,764 on these lavish getaways. 

The holidays aren’t just about where you go; they’re about what you give. While physical presents like heirlooms or handmade items still hold sentimental value, an overwhelming 74% of respondents revealed they’d rather receive an experiential gift. Think tickets to a live concert, a luxurious weekend getaway, or even a fine dining experience. It’s not just about the gift itself but instead, about the memories and connections it creates. 

This trend towards experiential gifting underscores a broader sentiment that holidays are about togetherness. More than half of the respondents agreed that the season amplifies their desire to spend time with loved ones. From hosting intimate gatherings at home to planning extended family stays, there’s a clear focus on fostering connections. Activities like holiday markets and festive celebrations top the list of planned activities, providing immersive ways to bring everyone together and create moments that truly matter.
