It paired high drama with subtle style

  • The 2019 Tony Awards honour the men and women in America’s theatre industry
  • The award was named after Antoinette Perry – nicknamed Tony – an actrress, director and co-founder of the American Theatre Wing
  • Last night’s awards was hosted by James Corden, and features stars of stage and screen including Jake Gyllenhaal and Bryan Cranston

The Tony Awards celebrate the people who deliver exceptional performances on stage each night—live, with no chance for a second take.

So it should come as no surprise that the folks who really stood out on the red carpet were the ones who understand the power of a first impression. Sometimes, like with the inimitable Billy Porter, those impressions were unapologetically daring.

Other times, with guys like Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeff Bridges, they were a little more toned town. And of course you’ve always got men like Bryan Cranston and James Corden who push the envelope but don’t go entirely out there. Always, though, there’s something impressive to be seen.
