Fleets works like Snapchat and Instagram stories

If you can’t beat ‘em, join them might just be Twitter’s new business mantra.

The social media service has just rolled out ‘Fleets’, a new feature that lets you post tweets that will disappear after 24 hours.

The new feature follows on from features that was originally pioneered by Snapchat, and has since been adopted by Instagram and Facebook.

“Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation — it’s where you go to see what’s happening and talk about it,” said the platform in a launch statement.

“But some of you tell us that Tweeting is uncomfortable because it feels so public, so permanent, and like there’s so much pressure to rack up Retweets and Likes.”

The rollout of Fleets comes after a successful rollout in Brazil, Italy, India and South Korea. Twitter said that Fleets led to users talking more and sharing less casual thoughts than via its regular platform (where Tweets live forever).
