The sporting world has had a devastating blow to regularily scheduled programming in 2020 and we’re all feeling the loss all sports be it racing, football or rugby.
Le Mans 24 Hour race this year will be a virtual race and drivers have signed up to be a part of this special drive from F1’s Max Verstappen and Lando Norris to the all female Richard Mille team comprised of F1 Test Driver Tatiana Calderon, Katherine Legge (former IndyCar car driver and IMSA GD runner-up) and Sophia Floersch and Australian native Emily Jones, widely considered the best SimRacer on the planet. The virtual race will take place on June 13.
Spain’s double Formula One champion and two times Le Mans winner Fernando Alonso will join Brazilian former Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello in their own entry.
Ferrari’s current F1 driver Charles Leclerc is teaming up with Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi in a Ferrari 488 GTE while Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly partners Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne in a Veloce Esports team.
The aim is not to replicate the entry list for the 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, now taking place on September 19-20, but to shine a spotlight on the presitigious race and to provide 24-hours of top entertainment for competitors and fans around the world.
The virtual race follows the standard format of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with free practice and qualifying sessions to be held from 10 to 12 June.
The start will be given on June 13 at 3 pm and the entire event will be broadcast in full on digital platforms and those television channels that broadcast the WEC.
