AED500 million pledged to help realize residents’ good ideas

The Dubai Council has pledged AED500 million to improve the quality of life here in Dubai.

The best part? It wants your ideas on how to develop the city’s communities, with the best ones becoming funded.

It’s all part of the ‘Design Your Life’ campaign, which announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The campaign will ask for the public’s view on what new amenities they feel areas require.

“We have instructed today in the Dubai Council to build 12 integrated councils across Dubai neighbourhoods to serve as citizens’ meeting points during gatherings, functions and social events,” Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.

He also announced the creation of neighbourhood councils, made up of experienced members of the community to better understand the needs of those communities.

The change in housing policy

Sheikh Mohammed also decided that 422 citizens would be except from their loans and debts to the housing program.

“We also directed that the youth be exempted from the electricity delivery fees for their new residential homes for those whose construction costs do not exceed Dh4 million,” he tweeted.

This follows Abu Dhabi, which recently made 429 retired citizens exempt from housing loans worth almost AED444 million.
