Even back then the UAE had the coolest police cars in the world

Dubai and Abu Dhabi over the last decade or so has been seriously beefing up its police car fleet, from Bugattis, to Aston Martins, to most recently Maseratis. Even back in the 70s though, it had some seriously droolworthy cars to behold.

If you head over to Abu Dhabi and its Marina Mall, you will see a first generation Range Rover and a Porsche 924, both from the 70s.

Even back before the massive boom in the UAE economy, the emirate was strutting its stuff with high end enforcement cars.

The cars are in pristine condition, with the iconic green and white liveries (which are red and white these days) to denote the police ownership of the cars.

The displays have the cars protected by ropes, though visitors can admire old images of the cars in use in the emirates.

The Porsche 924 was a car from 1976 to 1988, it was the latest in Porsche’s entry models and was also the first Porsche ever to be fully automatic.

The first generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996, it was powered by an impressive V8 engine but had a mere – and old school – 130 hp.

These days, the UAE capital goes for modern cars like Toyota Landcruisers, Rolls Royces and Lykan Hypersports.

The 1970s cars will be on display until July 21.
