There are more than a handful of beachside restaurants in the city, but not many of them get it right.
Yes, most of them get the physical location bit right (they put the restaurant on the beach) but forget that the entire point of a beachside restaurant is to make the diner believe they are eating in some exotic location. And it’s a tad hard to do that when your beachside restaurant is littered with tourists and blow-up beach toys.
Enter Palm Grill Dubai, which makes full use of The Ritz-Carlton Dubai JBR’s enormous grounds to distance itself from pesky tourists lazing around the pool. But is seclusion enough to warrant a visit?
Palm Grill Dubai: what’s the vibe?
As previously mentioned, Palm Grill Dubai is hidden away in the Ritz-Carlton Dubai’s large gardens. It’s smack-dab in the middle of the beach, but is far enough away from the busy bits of the hotel (the pool, the all-day-dining restaurant, lobby, etc.) that you’ll be hard pressed to tell you’re still in a five star property.
In the colder months, it offers some of the best sundown views in the city – complete with thje highly-instagrammable sight of the sun going down behind the Bluewaters Ferris Wheel. The vibe is relaxed, and casual – as it should be.
Palm Grill Dubai: how’s the food?
Food is spot on. Palm Grill doesn’t go crazy with the menu, instead all the Mediterranean staples are present and accounted for and executed with a touch of panache.
Seafood is the way to go here, with loads of fish dishes on offer (with some of the best being the simplest). As its name suggests, grilling is the name of the game and there’s not much better than a Spanish Octopus or Argentinean Prawns thrown on to a hot grill and served alongside toasty tomatoes and confit garlic.
Palm Grill Dubai: the verdict?
Palm Grill does the beachside restaurant concept justice. Not just for the view – which it certainly has in spades – but because it has the culinary chops to back it up.
