At this point MB&F is pretty much the modern watch world’s goldenboy.
An infant in the watch world when it launched in 2005, MB&F has become a titan in terms of luxury and innovation.
MB&F doesn’t say it creates watches, or timepieces, instead the brand makes “horological machines”. When it’s not doing that it indulges itself, and us, in more artistic ventures.
The brand’s Mechanical Art Devices are very much mad, often using metals and inspiration from horology to create some truly wild and wacky stuff. Now, thanks to Korean artist Young-Deok Seo and the LINK exhibition, there’s five new creations to behold.
Using a ‘meticulous and laborious process of welding chain to shape human figures, there exists the thinker 300, the Anguish 23, the Meditation 285, the Meditation 130, and finally the Nirvana 37.

Each sculpture represents human emotions, with the LINK collection as a whole showing the merge of harsh metal chain and the soft human body, commenting on the influence of a materialistic society.
Each piece uses metal chain, whether that be iron bike chain, steel industrial chain or rusted iron bike chain. While only 56 of these sculptures exist in the whole world, there’s surely enough choice in design to impress all art collectors or art admirers.

You may wonder what the random number at the end of each sculpture means? MB&F’s M.A.D. Gallery explains that each number represents the metres of chain used to create a piece, so for example, the Thinker 300 uses an impressive 300 metres of bike chain.
