Caviar is having a moment. As the ingredient de jour, the elite innovators are currently exploring the lengths to which it can elevate whatever it’s plopped on top of. Here’s an endorsement you may not have been expecting—a bit of caviar can actually work wonders for your hair and scalp.

Don’t crack open a can of Caspian Sea beluga in the shower, just yet, however. There’s a simpler option. Over the last month, I’ve been trying out anti-aging haircare brand Miriam Quevedo’s patented ‘Extreme Caviar’ hair loss solution—yes, made with actual caviar. It started with a scalp examination from Quevedo herself, who used a special tool to analyze the health of my hair from the root, zooming in on parts of my scalp to examine what exactly I needed, and whether I was worth saving.

My hair is important to me, as I’m sure yours is to you. I treat it as best I can, avoiding sulfates and using all-natural soaps, adding coconut oil here and there, trying different treatments I never end up sticking with because they never get to the heart of the issue—I’ve got an itchy scalp.

Apparently, it’s genetic. My father swears by this ancient bright-green chemical concoction that looks like the goop they killed the cartoons with in Who Framed Roger Rabbit—but his hair also disappeared almost completely soon after he started using it, so that’s out. I needed something new.

Quevedo saw the issues clearly. My hair was duller than it should be, and my scalp needed exfoliation—something I’d never been told before, as usually the line is more chemicals—along with a treatment regimen of different serums and shampoos specifically built to improve my scalp health so that hair loss would be minimized.

I’m at a point in my life where I’ve decided I need to take care of every aspect—mental, physical, spiritual—and stop putting things off. With that in mind, I committed fully to Quevedo’s instructions, using the Extreme Caviar Exfoliating Scrub Scalp Mask once a week, gently rubbing in tiny circles every part of my scalp meticulously, followed by the Extreme Caviar Bio-Regenerative for Hair Loss every night, built to penetrate the roots and improve microcirculation, and a daily Extreme Caviar Special Hair Loss Shampoo each night.

Within two weeks, people who rarely commented on my hair were remarking on how good it looked, asking what I was doing differently. Caviar, I told them, each time resulting in a confused frown. Little did they know.

Then came the moment of truth—another scalp exam from a Quevedo expert. This time, they were amazed—in part because I was a man who actually stuck to a haircare routine. My scalp was visibly different—and the roots were healthier too. It’s supposed to start really working after four months, but in one month it was already night and day.

So with that, I’m convinced. I’m sticking with this caviar stuff. As a result, I hope my hair sticks with me, too.
