While the actual placement of Sony’s Venom movie is unclear relative to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s hard to go wrong with Tom Hardy as a gritty anti-hero.
The first teaser for the upcoming film shows a little bit of Tom Hardy’s origin story as Eddie Brock, complete with corporate scientific intrigue, and motorcycle chases.
One thing is clear: This is not the colourful, funny, teen drama universe of the last summer’s Homecoming. Hardy is reliably brooding and twisted, though we never actually see him as the titular character. Hopefully, that will come in the next actual trailer. Otherwise, we’ll have to wait until October 5.
