Over his career, artist Sacha Jafri has helped raise more than $40 million dollars for various charities. He also boasts of a client list including the likes of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Leo DiCaprio and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
While his charitable turns are many, one that stands out to Esquire was when he spent five years travelling to each of the 42 refugee camps of the world, producing a truly staggering collection of paintings known as ‘The Universe Of The Child’.
In 2017, he became the youngest artist in history to have an 18-year career retrospective, and recently completed a project in collaboration with Esquire that raised a further $275,000 for worthy causes.
What does winning this award mean to you?
I’ve done a lot in my career, and while a lot of attention is given to my art work, I am grateful that my work with charities, children and refugees is also recognised.
What excites you about the region?
There’s a sense of a romance about how the UAE merges a new modern age with its cultural history. His Highness is someone who is very dedicated to his vision, and once he sets goals he will do all in his power to achieve them. I respect that, and it inspires me because that the sort of guy I am.
